I guess they're the first to popularize doom/death. changed a lot from album to album in other words "fresh"Īutopsy - very influential band and they're so unique from the other bands of the time. 'Nuff said.Ĭarcass - started Melodeath, very awesome in general. I don't feel like rambling on about why I think these bands are great, but, here it be:ĭeath - The ones who started it all. Their first 3 albums have all of this down, but man Unquestionable Presence just does it the best.Īs for Jupiter, it's okay, but not really that great and obviously a disappointment. Amazing original vocals that use an great variety of pitches and tones? Check. ABSURD DRUMMING (listen to the whole album again and focus on only the drums, it is just so well-written and diverse and mindblowing). Audible, technical, crazy bass playing? Check. Catchy, technical, well-written riffs? Check. Most of us can agree that Unquestionable Presence is their best album because it is pretty much perfect. Not only did they do that, then these guys have the nerve to incorporate jazz-fusion into their music? Excellent fucking choice. (One of them in 40 fucking days! That's just insane.) They managed to write GOOD technical elements into their music and create something new and fresh. As we know, very few bands can even release one masterpiece, but Atheist did this 3 times in a row. Their first three albums are all masterpieces in my eyes. I'll write mine on Atheist anyway because I feel they need to be mentioned, if the OP really doesn't want to hear bands like this, then a mod can delete my post.Ītheist was pretty much the first technical death metal band, and they influenced their fellow Floridians to incorporate more technical and progressive elements to their music. So what if they didn't try to be very heavy or aggressive? Both bands have released some really legendary work. What why no Atheist or Cynic? Both bands certainly played death metal and deserve to be here. the drums may not be anything crazy but they don't need to be as they fit the music perfect. their drummer does vocals as well so you have to cut some slack. nothing too technical about this band, but im not complaining one bit. severed survival is a landmark dm album, but mental funeral really gave them their character with more focus on the doom parts that just make your skin crawl (or should i say fleshcrawl). they did a great job with adding doom elements to their sound which gives this band their unique, dark, punishing sound. their slower parts aren't as brutal either, but possibly even slower. their faster parts are more of a thrashy feel to them, due to them being old school and from cali. one of the best technical dm bands of all time.Īutopsy- this band is also fast with slow passages, but not in the same way as suffocation. ![]() their debut was a solid straightforward dm album, heavy and in your face, but once one gets to obscura and from wisdom to hate, is where you see their true identity evolved into something truely unique. with their obscure technical riffs and odd time signatures, this band throws you around. Gorguts- putting their own obscure spin on the genre (especially on their later works) this band has created an atmosphere that no other band has been able to touch. with human waste being the first cd on relapse, all through their epitome of their career Peirced from Within, this band goes down in DM history, putting NY dm on the map. ![]() this is the heaviest band in death metal. again, matched with mike smiths technical drumming, and their insanely slow, brutal passages. you would never know how crazy fast these are until you try to play them. terrance hobbs riffs are up there with the most technical, without showboating at all. nobody will ever match what suffocation put out. Suffocation- THE brutal/technical death metal band. instant classic, and possibly the best florida dm band. treys guitar work is one of a kind, and matched with pete sandovals drumming. the fast paced altars of madness set a standard for death metal to come, and fallowed by their next 3 would add a whole new feeling to death metal with the slower mid paced passages that they became famous for. Morbid angel- they did so much for death metal. ![]() still good bands but not very aggressive compared to others). ![]() i'm looking for more of the heavier in your face death metal, (not bands like atheist & cynic. Here we shall discuss the best, most punishing death metal bands, why they are get credit, and what albums got them there.
